Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wendy Iles, owner of Iles Formula, located in New York and Paris.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Iles Formula is a niche, clean, luxury haircare brand. We're a breath of fresh air in an over-crowded market with our collection of award-winning. These high-performance formulas instantly transform ALL hair types from the very first treatment. We deliver what has become known as the Iles Formula signature finish sumptuous, lustrous, and nurtured hair that will make you fall in love with your hair again.
Tell us about yourself
I am, first and foremost, a hairstylist. I've been in the business for over four decades, working with some of the world's most prestigious magazines, A-list celebrities, and global campaigns for luxury fashion and beauty houses such as Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, to name a few. The motivation to launch Iles Formula was really driven by my celebrity clients who insisted that I make what were previously my private formulas available to the public. They had never experienced anything that delivered such instant results on their tortured hair.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishments as a business owner are the reviews that I wake up to every day from customers from all around the world. I am deeply humbled by their words and the time they've taken to share their positive experiences with us. Likewise, I am very proud to have stayed on track with my core beliefs to maintain a no-noise brand where minimalism meets maximum performance and resists the many external pressures to develop endless products for the sake of boosting numbers.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I am fortunate to have a strong, tight team that supports me with the business. I still juggle many aspects of the business myself, and as it continues to grow, I also continue to learn the balance that's required, i.e., which aspects should be delegated to my team so I am better able to concentrate on the areas that nobody else can oversee.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have courage and self-belief.
- Surround yourself with a team that shares the same values and vision of the future as you do.
- Grow with integrity.
