What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Icon, we build more than brands; we build ICONs. Icon Industries is a catalyst for the Professional, the Subject Matter Expert. Entrepreneurs looking to stand out from their competition in the saturation of Social Media and ever-changing online presence.

Tell us about yourself

I started early in life, had my first job at 12, joined the US Army at 16, in Bootcamp by 17, and off to Germany at 18. My entrepreneurial journey started like many, as I got involved in an MLM or 2. I never regret what I did in the industry; it taught me so much about getting into business, getting into reading great books, and how to get out and lead. When I quit my job as an engineer, I was doing great in that industry, was making a high income, and was traveling all over the world. But I was leaving my kids, and my health was being threatened. So I decided to start my first business, quit my job, and got an office close to home. Over the years, the business model and brand have gone through some changes, but we have steadily grown year after year. What motivates me now is to see my team grow and know they love to come to work every day excited to grow with us.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building my team of hand-selected people has really been the biggest accomplishment so far, with the goal of having them all be full-time in 2023.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being responsible and investing in the company and not blowing profits on fancy toys.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be specific in your offerings. If you are offering a service, be the best at one thing before you add another service.
  2. Create content. You need to be creating content and put it out consistently, so you remain top of mind to your target audience.
  3. Network, network, network. Get out and meet people. Become a source of referrals, and people will refer you.
