What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is an executive-level resume and LinkedIn Profile writing service. Our customers are high-level executives looking for their next career move.
Tell us about yourself
I started this business as I found myself a single father and no longer able to work the long inconsistent hours of an executive recruiter. As I was already rewriting my clients' resumes, it seemed a logical move! My business tagline is Better Job. Happier You. I firmly believe that in order for a persona to be truly happy, they must be happy in their work. I love helping my clients find their true career purpose and position themselves to get the job that will bring them that fulfillment.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is to take my business from that first client charging $50 and make it into a million-dollar global enterprise employing 20 staff.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part is turning off the computer and taking time for myself. It is extremely difficult to do, even though I know it is necessary. I know that I am responsible solely for the success or failure of the enterprise, and this makes it hard to take that downtime without feeling guilty.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Number one - real entrepreneurs will fail in their businesses from time to time. This does not make you a bad business owner; it's a testing ground to see if you have the real problem-solving abilities required to pivot your business concepts. Number two - it's who, not how. Find the right person and delegate. Number three - make sure you know your industry and have experience working in it because you will know it.
