One Bite and You’ll Fall in Love - iBake The Bakery

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashlee Pridgen, owner of iBake The Bakery, located in Baltimore, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m a professional cake artist. My customers are the most artistic people I know; lol, they come up with crazy color designs and crazy cake designs, and it challenges me. I love them.

Tell us about yourself

I’m chef Lee, and I started baking in 2014 but just for the family. I watched a lot of baking competitions on the Food Network and said one day I would be a cake artist. I kept practicing and experimenting, lol. I went to YouTube University, lol. I want to be a household name, so I work as hard as I can to get my name out there, and everyone knows who iBake is.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was in 2016. I catered a country wedding. I was so nervous, and it turned out so beautiful.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest is getting new customers when you are a small business owner. Some people only want who’s extremely popular.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Consistency, Practice and be knowledgeable. You are never too good to take a class, get advice from anyone, or practice. Practicing makes improvements.
