Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nikki Goldman, Founder of I/O Coaching, located in Miami Beach, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I/O Coaching is a leadership development firm. We specialize in executive coaching, offsite, and training. Our clients are all businesses themselves; companies hire us to help facilitate growth among their leaders and managers.
Tell us about yourself
I started I/O Coaching after spending years working at early to mid-stage startups. I was inspired by my own Executive Coach, who totally transformed my leadership style, to go back to school to learn about the field. From there, we've operated with the mission to help make companies more human. My operational experience makes me empathetic to my client's challenges and opportunities. Every day I stay motivated by the incredible and inspiring clients with that I have the privilege of being a thought partner.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been growing the I/O Coaching team. I pinch myself thinking about the amazingly talented coaches who have agreed to partner with us. Given the breadth and depth of coaching experience on the I/O team, I feel confident that our clients are benefiting greatly.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is knowing when to be working on the business and when to be working in the business. Working on the business means doing things like operating, managing, admin, etc., and working in the business means doing the work or services you provide. It's easy to get caught up in one, and as your own boss, it's crucial that you manage your own time carefully. This is something I find particularly challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, make sure you love what you're doing. There are way easier paths to take, so you have to love it to get through the stressful times. Second, be sure you have a strong support system. Whatever your doing will take a village, and shouldering it on your own isn't a recipe for success. Finally, just start. If you've been thinking about it forever, just do it. There is no better way to learn than on the job. Just take the leap!
