Train Your Mind and Your Body Will Follow - Hypnofit Maui

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Claudia Micco, Owner of Hypnofit Maui LLC, located in Lahaina, HI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called HypnoFit Maui LLC. I have a small business that provides Mind-Body Fitness concierge services, lifestyle management, hypnosis, pilates, and therapeutic movement to individuals over 55 in person and online. I engage a small, elite, and diverse group of clients here in Maui: high-level executives, retired CEOs, business owners, and their families. Most of my customers are part-time residents I see in person yearly, anywhere from 3 months to 10 months a year. I have also been fortunate to travel privately with my clients occasionally. In addition, my business provides continuing education and mentoring to certified instructors online and at fitness conferences and retreats.

Tell us about yourself

I have been an entrepreneur in the spa and fitness business since 1985. Mind-Body Fitness was not popular back then, but I was drawn to it after my first yoga class when I was 18. I was fortunate to meet my mentors early in life, who helped guide my education and experience. I had my first independent contractor job at 19. I have always enjoyed the freedom to expand, travel, diversify my teaching, and offer high-level customer service. I am a teacher with an insatiable curiosity to learn, so I am still in the game after 37 years. I am inspired every day because I love my work. I love to find new ways to solve problems and help people feel better living in their bodies.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, it's about the relationships I have built. People trust me with their bodies, their psyche, and their stories. I have worked for years to be exclusive and maintain their business. I have built a good reputation, and I enjoy the perks too.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a solo business owner, doing the paper/computer work is my hardest! Yes, I said it. It's my least favorite, and I have as much automation as I can figure out how to use it. However, I am looking forward to using more AI as it develops. I want to expand into the online business world more.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be Flexible. Be ok with changes. If you work with people, meet them where they are. Not where you are. Be able to morph into the shoes of your customers on demand.
  2. Collaborate with others and get help if you need it. If you need help with small tasks, get a virtual assistant. Learn from others in your field and keep an open mind.
  3. Get the business and legal stuff handled so you can focus on your passion.
