What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hygge offers customized dog food according to every dog's needs; it is super focused on sustainability, producing insect-based food, and using 100% recyclable bags. Our customers are dogs' parents who want their dogs happy and healthy.
Tell us about yourself
We've always loved dogs. We've always had dogs, and we strongly want them to be happy and healthy. My dog got quite ill and developed a lot of sores on her body. I tried different foods, and she didn't get better. The veterinarian told me it was a nutrition problem because there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to nutrition. I wanted to learn more about it.
It was incredible because she started to get better after ten days of customized food. I felt horrified that I was the person who had been making her ill for several months, and I wanted to do something about it. The category needed a shakeup, and I was incensed that other innocent pet owners and I had no idea they were buying food damaging their beloved pets.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
2022 has been a successful year for Hygge Dog. We've seen impressive sales growth and launched our new insect-based line.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
We are a new start-up, so my daily schedule can get very hectic. I'm lucky to find time for lunch on some days! However, I am learning to find a healthy professional and personal balance, and whilst it's still a work in progress, I am getting there.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
To create value and competitive advantage, listen to advice but always make your own mind up. And, last but not least, have a good accountant!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
To be ready to work hard and sleep a few hours per night!
