Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Stoupas, Founder of HUSLA PTY LTD., located in Hampton, VIC, Australia.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
HUSLA is a strength and nutrition coaching service. We have also added a second branch to the business, which designs and sells innovative lifting accessories, called HUSLA Lifting. Our customers are friendly, social, and driven people who are looking to make positive changes in their lives. There is a very strong focus on the community for HUSLA; we like to think we are one big family! We are always looking to grow the team as we believe it is hard to fail when you have the support needed from friends.
Tell us about yourself
I started HUSLA because for as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with fitness. What I didn't know was that I was going to LOVE running a business. Growing the business really motivates me. I like to find innovative ways to improve systems, and that seems to be what is on my mind most of the time. I am someone who really struggled in the schooling system; finding something that I love doing every day is my number one motivator.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think the biggest accomplishment is actually owning a successful business; I smell the roses every day. I know that is a very generic answer, so I'd say hiring my best friends as coaches has been another huge accomplishment; being able to provide them with a career is really fulfilling.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Having a mind that doesn't stop, I struggle to focus on other things. It is hard to maintain relationships when I am so focused on the business but I wouldn't have what I have today without it, so I wouldn't change it for anything. Maintaining relationships is just a little bit more effort.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- The best time to start was ten years ago; the second best time to start is now.
- You may physically have a weekend, but if the business calls, be ready to get things done.
- Surround yourself with people who motivate you, and don't be afraid to ask questions (my inbox is always open).
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I'm thankful for this opportunity of being able to tell part of my story. I love talking to people who are on a similar path to me or are looking to do similar things, so please don't hesitate if you want to reach out :)
