Productivity and People Are Both Needed - Humanity Works

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Roeske-Zummer, co-founder of Humanity Works, located in Boulder, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We coach, lead and change the way people inside an organization work. We provide straightforward, practical techniques that shift behavior to be a good human and do better work allowing you and your organization to thrive. We are co-authors of the book Humanity Works Better. Productivity and People are BOTH needed.

Tell us about yourself

We are passionate about the messiness of what it means to be a human who is growing and changing, and learning every single day. We believe that you can become more AWARE of who you are, that you can CHOOSE something different, and that takes COURAGE. That is why our subtitle is 5 Practices to Lead with Awareness, Choice, and the Courage to change. I have been a coach for 20 years and believe that you get to choose in every moment who you want to be, and we have a plethora of tools, skills, and frameworks that will help you do just that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It happens daily: watching people see what is not working and trying something different. It begins with them saying yes to us - or a coach- who can help them understand what is not working and give them options to see another way. I live that accomplishment every single day.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Deciding what to say yes to and what to say no to. Staying conscious of the outcome we want to create and making sure our decisions and choices match where we want to go.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Wake up every single day and do at least one thing to move the business idea forward. Just one. (Of course, you sometimes get on a roll and do more than one).
  2. Be clear about the outcome you want to create - how many clients do you want, and how much money do you want/need to make? Quantify it and be clear about it so that you can then do step #1!
  3. Find people who will support you, cheer you on, and mentor you! Don't ever under rest.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Change begins with YOU. If you want to make something happen, then do it. One step at a time, but be responsible. Don't quit your day job if you need that to pay rent. Do it in between hours and see how you can grow your vision.
