What's your business, and who are your customers?
House of Yoga is a community of sincere, spiritually based yogis. We serve students who wish to practice the 8 limbs of yoga. This includes the physical practices of asana, pranayama, and meditation. We teach and embody the virtuous practices of the Yamas and Niyamas with compassion and non-harming at the forefront. We are Bhakti Yogis and offer devotional practices of puja, sacred rituals, and kirtan. After fifteen years in a physical studio, we now teach virtually via Zoom and Teachable and offer live classes and events in our outdoor Sanctuary in spring, summer, and fall.
Tell us about yourself
I was introduced to mantra and meditation as a young girl and later initiated into the Siddha Yoga Lineage via Gurumayai's transmission when I was 18 years old. I found the physical practices of yoga and the ethical practices as an adult in my 30s. In the first Ashtanga class that I attended, the invocation was chanting, and I was "home." I knew without a doubt that this is my path.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being authentic, not selling out to fads and trends of commercial yoga.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Maintaining a cool head.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
