Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bernardo Möller, founder of House of Bō, located in Miami Beach, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
House of Bō is an eco-friendly line of gender-neutral fragrances. We celebrate gender neutrality at its most basic core. We believe gender labels are just that, labels. Souls, in our opinion, have no gender. We like to say luxury is not meant to be seen; it is meant to be felt. We use natural elements in our craftsmanship as a reminder of the powerful beauty revealed by nature when it is left raw and untouched. House of Bō aims to inspire you to be your raw, unaltered self to experience the beauty that comes with authenticity. We believe authenticity leads to more meaningful connections that nurture your soul.
Tell us about yourself
I began collecting perfumes at the age of 13. For me, fragrances tell the most intimate stories of love, heartbreak, and adventure. My passion for fragrances took center stage the day my father unexpectedly passed away from COVID 19. Inspired by my Dad's spiritual teachings of living an authentic and purpose-driven life and my love for architecture and design, I began to create House of Bō with renowned master perfumers in hopes to inspire the world to connect to fragrances on a spiritual level.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Selling House of Bō Perfumes at Neiman Marcus and Sacks Fifth Avenue only two months after our launch.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing your time correctly and being prepared and happy never to have days off. When you love what you do, and you are truly passionate about it, it comes naturally; work becomes a basic daily need.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Choose the right business; you have to be prepared to eat, sleep, and breathe it. Launching a new brand is hard work; it requires your full and complete attention. It's like choosing a life partner; it's important you can see yourself with them day and night for the rest of your life.
- Be 100% organized; not only will you save a lot of time, stress, and unnecessary expenses but also open doors for you.
- Collaborate and always share your success with others; life has a way of rewarding this behavior.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I really believe genuine interest in your own brand, product and message are palpable in your final product. The intention and purpose behind a brand are key. If you choose a business only to make money, people won't connect to your brand.
