What's your business, and who are your customers?
Horizon Soap Company is a soap manufacturing company based in Rensselaer, NY. Soaps and shampoo bars are handmade in small batches with amazing and natural organic ingredients for the whole family. Anyone and local business owners are welcome as customers since Horizon Soap Company offers wholesale and private label opportunities. We are working on something new that, hopefully, everyone will like.
Tell us about yourself
I am Chris, and I started Horizon Soap Company on a whim. I didn't have much when I started, and I had to learn everything about soap making, which I am always learning every day. Horizon Soap Company is a one-man show; I work on everything and have no employees, not yet. I got into it after watching a youtube video and thought it would be fun. I am always learning and having and trying new ideas. I hope everyone likes them or shares an idea they may have.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have been doing this with no help or advertisement; I did only one ad on Facebook, and that is it. So my biggest accomplishment has to be that I did it and still do it with no advertisement but just word of mouth.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Having to learn everything when I knew nothing, and then there are the costs of ingredients and other things like tools and molds, shipping materials, and more.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Depending on the business and what is involved, I would recommend starting slow and small, learning the business, and then gradually growing. Learn everything you can before starting, and then continue to learn so you can grow. I always start small and then grow while still learning and always take criticism and listen.
