Providing Easier Access to Support & Self Care - hOMe Holistic
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Walburn, Owner of hOMe Holistic, located in Overland Park, KS, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is hOMe holistic. We are a yoga studio and wellness center offering prenatal yoga and doula services just for mothers and mothers-to-be.
Tell us about yourself
When I was having my children, I noticed that there were no yoga classes or a business that was really dedicated to mothers and growing families. I really wanted that sense of community and a place that felt safe to go when I was pregnant and a new mother. I am the mother of four, now young adult boys, and I needed more support, and I wanted to offer them a more holistic, healthy lifestyle than what I had. I am motivated to help, heal, and support mothers because I know what it’s like not to have that support. That keeps me going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Truly my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is every single time somebody walks through the front door at hOme Holistic, I know that whatever they’re doing, whoever they’re seeing, it’s going to be an amazing experience for them! I’m glad that we made it through COVID; what a relief that is. But what I am the most proud of is that every single person at hOMe holistic is amazing and a true healer in their specialties. I am honored they want to work at HH and am always so thrilled to see people feel better after they have been here.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Oh, I don’t like to think of anything that is really hard, just things that I enjoy more than others. Marketing isn’t very fun for me, and we’re very lucky that we have grown almost exclusively by referrals only; the universe must’ve known that that’s not where I shine! I don’t mind cleaning; I don’t mind repairs. I love teaching classes and being there when other classes are being taught. Oh, and I am not great at retail! I forget to reorder and restock all the time!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Discover what you love. Then find ways to share that in a meaningful way. Be brave and make connections and just do it!
