What's your business, and who are your customers?
Mama Meals is an organic, gluten-free postpartum meal prep and delivery service for the fourth trimester and beyond.
Tell us about yourself
After my first birth, I ate cold raw crunchy foods....things that are healthy but not right for postpartum. I ended up chronically constipated and had a lot of postpartum anxiety. I then learned that postpartum should be warm, soft, and easy to digest...like soups and stews. I prepped about 60 meals to store in my deep freezer for after my second birth, and the difference was night and day. My digestion was great, and my mood much brighter. I felt like I was being wrapped in a warm hug every time I ate. I prepped the same food for other friends having babies and had the same experience. After that, Mama Meals was born.. pun intended :)
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
About 30-40% of our customers reorder, which tells me they have the same experience enjoying.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
At this stage of life, managing the business with also being a mother and primary caregiver to a five boy and a 1.5-year-old girl!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Just start! You don't have to have it all figured out...this is the third business I've started (formerly a luxury wedding planner, and I also have a successful print-on-demand Etsy store). If I would have waited until I knew all the answers to start, I never would have gotten going. Learn as you go, and be willing to be persistent and do the things most people are not willing to do.
