The Integrated Life Journey - HL Strategies
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heidi Lewerenz, Founder of HL Strategies, LLC., located in Weston, WI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I train and coach women leaders who are growing businesses and families simultaneously. I help them make money by integrating their lives and elevating their teams.
Tell us about yourself
Entrepreneurship, parenting, and ministry have been my life's crucibles of change and character-building. They have forged resiliency, hope, and grit. I have been in business for more than 25 years and have led teams since I could talk. I've struggled to navigate the unique challenges of simultaneously scaling a business and raising children. Success has come but always with more responsibility. I've often felt like I was going to lose my ever. Loving. Mind. With all the juggling.
I wanted to quit and quit on my business when I was so overwhelmed and unable to see my way through a messy, entire season of life. It took me a couple of years to recover and reintegrate my life... bringing the best of me to all I was called to be.
As a mom to 7 children and wife for two decades, I value family and being present for my people. As a leader and entrepreneur, I value business and contributing to our income. One of the reasons I'm motivated to show up for my clients is because I believe they can do both family and business, too! I don't want to see them burn out, stress out, or strike out because they are managing the tension between two worlds vs. integrating their lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being the founder of the Microseason Method (TM) has been one of my most significant accomplishments in my business. Seeing my coaching clients unlock their obstacles to greater freedom has been one of my most important accomplishments as a coach.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, the hardest parts are pacing and work-life integration. The personal priorities into the rhythms of business building. Or maybe it's integrating the business building into the rhythms of my preferences?! As a business owner, it's the feeling that I need to be "on" 24/7.
It's fighting the feeling that I should always be somewhere else. It's catching myself when I flip into over-achieving, hyper-speed mode and remembering to slow down. It's the silencing of the constant voice-talking business in my head while I'm physically present with my people.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be committed to your "why"- without a clear vision for why it's all worth it, you will give in to quitting when it gets hard, and it will get hard. But you can do hard things! You need to have a "why."
- Believe that it's possible!- keep the faith that good is coming, and you will figure out a way to make it all work, even when it seems overwhelming. Guard your heart and mind against the siren of despair and despondency. Make changes when necessary, but keep believing that you have hope and a future!
- Pace yourself—starting a business requires a sprinting kind of energy, but running a business requires a marathon kind of energy, and growing a business requires a relay kind of energy (sprinting and marathoning). You will burn out and quit if you run too hard and fast for too long. Save some energy. Rest along the way. The goal isn't just to "get there first" but "stay in the race." The competition is not about speed but resiliency.
