Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wooden handcrafts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trevy Thomas, president of Historical Woods of America, located in Fredericksburg, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We make handcrafted luxury items from historical wood. Our collection includes trees planted by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Write with a pen that ties this moment to America's esteemed beginnings and be inspired by historical perspective.
Tell us about yourself
Historical Woods of America was my late husband's creation. When he died, I was determined to carry on his vision. He touched every tree, and I didn't want the wood to disappear with him.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Finding a way to turn this business into something that's right for me at this time of life.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Admitting what you can't do and carrying on with what you can.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Keep shifting things until it feels right, don't grow beyond what you can reasonably do, and don't listen to naysayers.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Creativity and work go well together. Find what inspires you.
