Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carlos Terron, Owner of HIITCore Fitness, located in Braintree, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At HIITCore, we use high-intensity interval training as a vehicle to improve our fitness. Our unique and progressive program integrates different modalities of fitness at varied demands. Our approach is backed by science and leads to improved strength and overall cardiovascular conditioning.

Our workouts are 45 minutes and jammed-packed with fitness from start to finish! We guide our members through a group warm-up, which is a component derived from the focus and exercises for that day. Depending on what we're working on, we will have a HIIT 1 and HIIT 2 or end with a Core blast segment sure to leave you rolling out of bed for the next few days.

Periodically, we include strength segments to continue promoting muscle and strength development. Our HIIT workouts are like no other! We constantly vary the timed intervals and rest periods in order to keep our bodies "guessing" and avoid plateauing. Our workouts are fully customizable and available to anyone looking to shed a few extra pounds and gain lean muscle.

Tell us about yourself

Inspired by the desire to change people's lives, I left an established career in Information Technology to pursue my ever-growing love for fitness. I climbed the ladder in IT and held jobs as Network Engineer and Network Administrator. In my last corporate job, I managed a group of engineers based throughout the world. It was our responsibility to ensure connectivity to our home office in Boston.

I was able to travel throughout the world in places like Japan, London, and Luxembourg, and I was absolutely killing it in my career. Even through all my success, I still did not feel fulfilled. I felt like I could do more! As an avid fitness enthusiast, I trained every day and was that crazy person running to a class in the city in a suit during my lunch break. Then, took calls and answered emails at my desk while trying to stop sweating. I participated in many types of fitness competitions, including 10k road races, sprint triathlons, local CrossFit® competitions, and long-distance biking events.

Through my training, I continued to be inspired by the changes that I saw in myself and wanted to share the same rewarding development with others. I decided to make the leap of faith and start my own gym. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to turn my dream into a reality. Each day, I am motivated by like-minded individuals who give it their all in class and continue to chase personal development and health and wellness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner is knowing that I have created a fitness regimen that is effective and vastly popular. I've created a brand synonymous with challenging workouts and a fun atmosphere.

My second biggest accomplishment is the Free 3 Day Pass marketing initiative. This program gives a new member a ton of value and the ability to try my gym absolutely free. The process around the Free 3-Day Pass is unique and diligently configured to be personalized, which makes it a successful initiative.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a business owner has been hiring the right personnel, especially through COVID and post-COVID times. The landscape is vastly different, and we've adapted our benefits and recruiting process. I've been fortunate to have found amazing employees who have worked really hard and are extremely personable and skilled.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love. When you do what you love, you will do anything in your power to make it happen. Running a business means that you have to endure good and bad times. When it is something you love to do, you will continue to press and endure difficult situations.
  2. Do your research and plan. Invest time in this process and play devil's advocate every step of the way. When you think you have it, have someone else look at it and/or build a group of people that will give you honest feedback. Then, highly consider their feedback and make necessary adjustments.
  3. Learn and execute current marketing techniques, both organic and paid advertisement. This is an invaluable part of growing your business. This will also be an ever-changing process that will have to evolve as trends change. Lastly, 4.) (Sorry, I know we're only looking for three here!) Invest in your product. Make it the best ever and show and prove how it is better. The more you invest in your product, the more repeat customers you will have!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
