Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenni Johnson, Founder of Higher House, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Through my business, Higher House, I help women learn how to align their skills, talents, and passions into a profitable business with a clear action plan. While my clients can be either aspiring entrepreneurs transitioning out of the corporate arena OR already have an existing business, the similar challenge they all share is overwhelming - knowing how to funnel their creative inspiration into a step-by-step plan that creates forward momentum.

Tell us about yourself

This business has been a long time coming, personally! After supporting the growth of multiple franchises and entrepreneurs in the wellness and beauty industry over the past decade, I just knew that it was time to bring Higher House into the world. I've seen the burnout that happens when people step into a business that looks good on paper but that they're not actually passionate about. I'm motivated to help people avoid that business trap by guiding their awareness toward the business they ARE uniquely suited to bring into the world. This alignment creates a beautiful opportunity to create an impact in their community while also allowing for fulfillment and financial reward.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm most proud of the growth I've seen my clients create personally and in their businesses. When I see their eyes light up with the realization that the gifts that come naturally to them have value and are meant to be shared and valued in return, it brings me so much joy! So many of us have been led to believe that we can't make money doing what we love, and knowing that I'm helping to shift this mindset in business is why Higher House exists.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the greatest challenges for me and many of my clients is remembering that not every idea is meant to be executed, no matter how much success it has brought someone else. There's so much well-intentioned business advice floating around. Because of this, I find that our biggest challenge (and also our greatest opportunity for wisdom!) comes from staying true to our own inner compass of what serves us and what does not in each moment.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be passionate about your business. This sounds obvious, but it has to make you genuinely excited if it's going to be a business that other people want to be a part of - whether that's customers, employees, or YOU as the owner.
  2. Uncover your self-limiting beliefs. The way you value yourself and others will shape your experience and your influence as an entrepreneur.
  3. Lean into your fears. When we get radically honest about our fears around stepping into entrepreneurship, we free ourselves creatively and energetically because we're able to examine how we show up more objectively.
