Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay White, Founder of High Voltage Leadership, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Do you know that woman who is a powerhouse Female Founder as well as being a kick-ass Mom?

That's the woman that we work with at High Voltage Leadership. Our clients have built (or are in the process of building) truly amazing businesses. They are successful, driven, passionate, and professional. To anyone on the outside, they look like they've got it all together. But on the inside, they feel like they are constantly on the hamster wheel, worried that they will drop one of the hundreds of balls they are constantly juggling, and they are always feeling a little guilty that either their business or their family might be getting the short end of the stick.

High Voltage Leadership was created to support these amazing women, who are driven professionals and want to have thriving, successful businesses but also want to be amazing moms. We provide 1-on-1 leadership coaching so these incredible women can lead their family and their team, but most importantly themself, from a place of authenticity, whole-heartedness, and deep purpose. We also provide People Operations consulting to support these incredible Female Founders in creating inspiring and high-performing places to work. And when combined, inspired leadership mixed with the people, programs, and processes that create inspiring cultures, these female-led businesses grow exponentially and drive incredible value for everyone involved.

Tell us about yourself

I started working with leaders and teams about 15 years ago during my corporate career as an HR Business Partner. I saw firsthand how a leader who was confident and connected to their own leadership brand and authentic style could make a huge difference to the culture of a team. Working in HR, I also recognized that creating great programs that support the cultural ecosystem and the people in it can enhance everyone's ability to feel seen, heard, respected, and, most importantly, do their best work.

When I'm not consulting with my amazing clients, you can find me hanging out with my family. I'm the mom of 4 amazing kids, with only one still left at home. I'm a "Glama" (because I'm way too young and fabulous to be a Grandma!) to my 2-year-old Granson Beckham, and there's one more on the way this summer. I'm also a dog-mom to my three little Shih-Tzus and just celebrated 12 years with my amazing husband, Rodney.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment so far is just being in business through a global pandemic! But seriously...I was nominated last year for a Female Entrepreneur of the Year award here in Alberta, and I was so honored to be amongst some really incredible women.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are very clear on your own values and purpose - you can't build a great business or have solid boundaries unless you know what you care about the most.
  2. Cherish your network. Surrounding yourself with people that support you and can offer great advice and information as well as refer you to potential clients is an amazing asset.
  3. Listen to your intuition. There are all sorts of 'experts' out there that will tell you they know how to make you successful, but it's hard to know who to trust. Make sure that you are listening to your powerful inner voice...it'll never steer you wrong.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The only thing I would add is that having a great coach is vital. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a coach!! I have found that having my own coach, sometimes more than once, has been one of the most important investments I'm made in myself and my business. Having a coach who understands your agenda and then can provide the support, perspective, and accountability you need will help you move forward faster than you can by yourself.
