Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeff Schechter, Co-Founder of High Return Real Estate LLC, located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We have three companies and provide a complete "turnkey" service for investors. Our customers are people that are middle class, working hard but don't have time to be experts in another arena. They are busy professionals or entrepreneurs and want to learn how to pay less taxes and build real wealth.

Our companies:

  1. A real estate company that provides rental properties with great returns.
  2. A property management team that can manage short, medium, and long-term rentals. We also have a very strong construction team, not just for typical tenant turns but larger rehabs and building of ADUs (additional dwelling units) on existing properties.
  3. A tax firm that actually has great tax STRATEGISTS on our team, not just CPAs that file returns.

Tell us about yourself

I went into business with a client of mine who was buying some turnkey properties. We got into this business just being a marketing arm for another provider, who turned out to be very unethical. So, we were quickly forced to learn all aspects of the business. It's been a long road, but we've built out an incredible system to help Americans live a better life... both now (with cash flow) and later (amassing real wealth). This is what motivates me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Going from two guys who just wanted to sell a few properties to investors to having another partner and three great companies!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Taking total responsibility for everything, both good and bad. There's nobody to blame. This is also one of the most rewarding things too.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you know about and are passionate about. There are many days where it's just a lot of work, and you don't want to be working on something just for the money... you have to know it and love it.
  2. Don't go it alone. Find team members and partners that share your vision and who have strengths in areas where you don't. This will allow you to grow better and faster.
  3. Take care of yourself. Get a good night's sleep, drink water, eat healthy, meditate, pray, work out, play, and spend quality time with loved ones. You can't be effective if you're not at the top of your game physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
