Lose Your Beer Belly, & Feel Satisfied - High Performance Dads
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Brian Hughes, Founder of High Performance Dads, located in Edmond, OK, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
High Performance Dads (HPD) is a men's coaching business. My customers are Dads- looking for more in life, a way or path to have everything they have wanted as a father, inside their marriage, their health, and finances.
Tell us about yourself
I first began coaching after my life completely fell apart 7.5 yrs ago. From losing 1/2 million dollars, going into bankruptcy, alcoholism, to almost losing my marriage, kids, and my own life. Opening up has now connected me to 1000s of men/dads struggling to understand themselves, be confident, and lead themselves and their families in a direction that serves everyone. I discovered I wasn't alone and created HPD.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Helping dads perform better in every aspect of life. To become the man they are called to be and lead their families. It's the most fulfilling thing to watch as a man recreates himself inside the family unit. Reconnecting with his wife and kids, getting healthy/fit, and creating a financial future for them.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Separating facts and feelings. When you're coaching dads, your heart is in it 100%, and if I ran this business off all my feelings that come up, it would crumble. Sticking to the facts when making business decisions keeps a business alive.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get your MVP - minimum viable product. Once you have clarity, take immediate action. The time spent trying to figure out what you need in 6 months, you could be earning money and learning much quicker by doing.
- Be 100% committed to it. If you're going into it to "try it," you've already given up. It will be hard but rewarding; stay committed.
- Focus on progress every day, how I can progress today, this week, etc.
Perceived perfection in business is destructive. Always work towards progress is key as there is no "finish line."
