Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vickie Dickson, founder of Health on Purpose, located in Ontario, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with women entering their 'second act' who are fed up and over it all! They're ready to live out the next half of their lives healthy, well-rested, energetic, and at their ideal weight with grace and ease.
Tell us about yourself
A health crisis in my 40's led me back to school to study nutrition, yoga, meditation, and essential oils. I was dismissed by a medical profession that seems to believe that women 'of a certain age' need to accept a dull drum life of low energy, no sex, extra pounds, and menopausal symptoms from hell.
Not on my watch!
Through my Health Simplified Program, my clients learn to truly love themselves - I know - it sounds sketchy, but this is the real thing. The kind of self-love that can stop self-loathing in its tracks.
We're not talking bubble baths and candles here. We're talking about getting down and dirty with traumas that have been tucked away in the cells to deal with "later." We're talking about reducing stress and living a life full of joy and vitality.
For real ❤️ We're talking about giving up diets, fads, boot camps, the 5 am club, and whatever other form of punishment you're laying on yourself to try to 'be better' and instead truly nourishing yourself on all levels. You've taken care of everyone else. Isn't it time you took care of yourself?
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I rose to the top 7% of leaders in doTERRA within 14 months and then the top 1% of leaders within 30 months. Building a global team in over 22 countries while building my nutrition practice, an online store, and a retail store. I love my work!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
We often want it more for our clients than they want it for themselves. Sometimes it's hard to meet people in the struggle and not reach in and fix it for them.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Wow - that's tough. Everything is different now than it was just 2 short years ago. I've taken my entire business, from traveling across the country to building it online.
If you're going to succeed now, it's going to have to have at least an online component. Get help with this! Don't waste your valuable hours trying to learn things when your time is better spent being the face of your business.
Develop consistency in your business from the start. People want to know that you will continue to be there for them. We give our money to those that we know, like, and trust. Build relationships and give more than you take - always.
