What's your business and who are your customers?
A coaching and consulting business that helps adults with learning disabilities and/or ADHD feel empowered to lead fulfilling, productive, and clutter-free lives.
Tell us about yourself.
I'm Alex Gilbert, a New Yorker, a Mets fan, a yogi, and a brunch enthusiast. Who also has dyslexia and ADHD.
After spending my career working in leadership development, I decided to start a consulting and coaching business that will help adults with learning disabilities and/or ADHD like myself who have been struggling in their careers.
My business, Cape-Able Consulting, was created to help them navigate their day-to-day workloads so that they feel supported and are able to reach their highest potential.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting my business was a big accomplishment. Living out my dream of supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or ADHD thrive is a dream I've had since I was 16 and I'm excited to work everyday.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Money and balancing budgets. I'm dyslexic and numbers have always scared me. Getting over that fear has been quite a challenge but I manage it everyday.
What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find something that you can speak passionately about, when self doubt creeps in remind yourself why you started, try something new every week to put yourself out there even if it means leaving your comfort zone.
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
Continue to put myself out there in new ways and try something new each week.
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance?
I follow the natural flow of my day. No two days look the same and I don't want it to. Not having the structure has been helped me be the most productive I've ever been.
Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and why?
I'm inspired by women entrepreneurs every day. I don't think since I've started my business that I have met one women who wasn't a total badass. The army of women entrepreneurs is what inspires me everyday.
