Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Kiel, Founder of Help Your Small Biz, LLC., located in Savannah, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Help Your Small Biz is a Savannah-based firm that helps small business owners thrive in accounting and marketing. I offer services of bookkeeping, website design and development, logo creation, social media assistance, copywriting, and content writing.
Tell us about yourself
I am an energetic, loving life, detail-oriented kind of person. I love what I do and am grateful to help others achieve great success. I take their dreams and goals and make them happen through accounting and marketing services. I've seen companies grow threefold with modern websites. I've seen families happily engaged because of knowing when to take an owner's draw. That money allowed them to take vacations and spend time together. It's about helping businesses grow, but it's almost always about the person behind the name and helping them succeed to the next level. It's incredibly motivating to have that much happiness and growth surround me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Letting go of what I cannot change. Letting go of that nasty self-doubt that plagued my growth. I had to nurture myself to take it a day at a time when I started so I didn't feel overwhelmed. Now I stay focused with lists that are manageable and hours that are flexible. For many, when we have our start-ups, we want all the customers and success as soon as possible. And you can have that, but you'll be working 80 hours a week, and you will lose your work-life balance quickly. My experience has taught me this advice - know what you want and find a way, but consider all the outcomes because balance is essential for a healthy life and steady business revenue.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The certainty of the unknown. A great marketing and business plan can secure a solid future on the books, but nothing is guaranteed. The pandemic taught us some hard lessons. It was incredible to see companies thrive during that period—Zoom, DocuSign, Peloton, Shopify, and Door Dash, to name a few. Most altered to services quickly and were successful. As an entrepreneur, you have to think all the time about what's next and how to get there because time waits for no one, and you cannot stand still and succeed.
