Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heidi Henyon, Founder of Delight in Life LLC., located in Nokesville, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I facilitate and guide people who are ready to heal from destructive patterns and cycles that cause difficulties in their life. Holding space for them and guiding them as they become their own best friend and see their magnificence and beauty. Aware Transformational Coach.
Tell us about yourself
When I started my own journey to heal from childhood abuse and the behaviors and patterns that were destructive in my life as a result of this, I found little more than talk therapy available. In the 70's and 80's that is what we had, and it did help some, but I wanted more than to talk; I wanted to heal. As a result, I started to explore alternatives to traditional methods. Energy healing, somatic therapy, NLP. I became certified in many of these modalities so I could help others who also wanted more.
What motivates me each day is knowing that we can heal from our past and our addictions quickly if we are willing to do the intense deep work and become our own best friends. It brings me such joy when I see people starting to see themselves as whole and complete beings. Be able to be their own best friend and to become resilient and joyful.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating my retreat center in Northern VA, Hide Away Pond. It has been a 30-year dream come true. A wonderful place in nature where people can be nourished and healed through the work I do and by making the space available for others to hold their workshops there.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You have to do everything. You are the CEO, COO, and CFO. Even when you have people who do this for you, you still have to be the rudder that leads and steers the ship. I had a very successful 25-year career in corp America. When I started my own business, I had no idea what I would have to learn.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have systems in place and stay organized.
- Learn to manage money.
- Be your own best friend, patient, and kind as you learn the ropes.
- I'll add a 4th tip. Find a business coach that knows not only business but also knows how to help you when you run up against your own blocks moving forward. We all hit those places because of the unconscious beliefs we have. You can't simply power through these. You have to recognize what in you is causing it and create strategies to actually change how your neurology works.
