What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an executive life coach, working with high-achievers helping them reframe achievement, ditch perfectionism, and embrace the embodiment of their deepest desires. Our world is ready for feminine leadership, and I am inspired every day by my clients' courageous moves.

Tell us about yourself

I fell into this work through the back door with some kicking and screaming, but ultimately it was hard not to acknowledge the life-changing transformation I lived through. As a young 20 something, I had checked all of society's boxes but was miserable. I had the degree, corporate job, life partner, but something was off. A life coaching experience opened my mind, heart, and life to courageously step out from the pre-determined path, learning to follow my internal compass and create a life that was fulfilling and meaningful for me. It's the liberation of energy that I witness being unleashed every conversation that I have that keeps me inspired and hopeful for our future. There's a groundswell of feminine leadership being actualized, and it gives me so much hope.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The sustainability and longevity of my business is by far the greatest accomplishment. I wanted to be a living example of what is possible when I left the corporate arena in 2007 to pursue my own business, and 15 years later, I am thrilled that I get to do still what I love every day. In that same vein, having my right-hand woman on my team is part of that same accomplishment. To provide employment, even part-time, so someone else can put their talents to work and do something they love every day is a dream come true. It's that kind of ripple effect that feels like such a huge accomplishment. I've lost track of how many businesses have launched, books are written, lives changed for the better, but the nature of my work is an accomplishment in and of itself. I get to ride shotgun with incredible people making their dreams come true! Pinch me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The absence of community (at first) which becomes the creation of the supportive community you need and want. Isolation is the Achilles heel of the entrepreneur; we need a circle of support. Upon first venturing out, it can be very lonely and isolating, which can fuel imposter syndrome and self-doubt. This is normal, but there is a fix.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Sorry for the cliche, but JUST DO IT! Reframe 'failures' as learnings, and learn quickly, apply your new learning as quickly as you can and just keep going.
  2. Surround yourself with the community, instead of trying to figure out 'how,' find 'who' can help. People have gone before us; find them, ask them for help/guidance/support/introductions. Even so-called "competitors" will help. You might feel afraid to 'ask for help but do it anyway!
  3. Have fun! I keep the quote "no one is getting out of here alive" close by as a reminder to bring some levity to the journey. This is our one precious life; let's enjoy it!
