Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heather Dempsey, a Business Coach based in Venice, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an emotional health coach - I focus on mindset and a little bit of strategy, but since the work is based on emotional health, I see individuals as well as business owners and entrepreneurs. My ideal clients are empaths, introverts, highly sensitive people, and those who struggle with anxiety. People with those characteristics and they find those characteristics are holding them back. They feel like they are limitations instead of assets. And I help them release the burden of those traits and to find the gift in it and the superpower that they have from it.
Tell us about yourself
Who am I? After 20+ years of running an award-winning brick-and-mortar business (a spa, boutique, yoga studio, and metaphysical shop and now a coaching, energy + sound healing center). Now, I help entrepreneurs do all the things it took me 20 years to learn without the headache and setbacks and time wasted waiting to learn from your own mistakes.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the fact that I have had 13 different businesses, and most of them have been award-winning. Sticking it out and being able to pivot every single time that markets and industries have changed - I've been in business for over 24 years now.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest things that come with being a business owner are the negative self-beliefs, conditioning, and the patterns that can keep them stuck. The inner beliefs usually don't allow someone to feel they are capable, smart enough, deserving, worthy, or any of the things that would actually allow us to accomplish all that we are truly capable of accomplishing. And all of this pressure and negative inner dialog usually has an impact on relationships as well, creating a downward spiral. This is why I am so passionate about supporting them.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The inner work:
- Work on a scarcity mindset is a 100% huge priority.
- Work on feeling supported and working on knowing that everything will be okay regardless of what it seems like.
- Work on being able to be content regardless of the circumstances is really important as a business owner because you are going to have hit-ups and downs. Through the downs, you still need to feel good, especially if you have a team that is working with you, because you need to be their cheerleader and keep them motivated. You, an unmotivated business owner or boss, cannot motivate your team.
- Work on leading how to surrender, to let go of attachment to outcomes, and HOW things have to happen.
Save some money, and make sure you have some set aside - the level of stress without some savings tucked away can lead to a quick burnout or workaholism.
Get support - coaches, mentors, therapists, masterminds, any and all support available. Do not do it alone. You will be able to go even further, faster, and easier. I cannot stress this enough. Get a coach, a business consultant, a mastermind. GET SUPPORT - If you'd like to see what that could look like, Let's talk.
