Experience More Peace and Relaxation - Heather Barron

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heather Barron, Founder of Heather Barron LLC, located in Bourbon, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

People are more mentally and physically stressed than ever. I teach simple yoga and mindfulness practices that you can easily use throughout your day to experience more peace and relaxation. I also understand that everyone feels stuck, frustrated, or unsure at times. I offer deep listening and thought-provoking questions during coaching sessions to help you gain personal insight and live a more connected, confident, and vibrant life that feels true to you. I especially love working with beginners because I know the power of experiencing this work and the shifts it can bring.

Tell us about yourself

I have practiced yoga off and on for 20 years, and I had been a public library director for 13 years when I stepped into this new adventure. Yoga felt like coming home to my body, yet it took me years to get out of my head and find the confidence to take a yoga teacher training. That led to meditation teacher training, and that led to a Mindful Outdoor Guide training. And all of it brought me to becoming a coach as I used my own coach to help me navigate all the changes this past year. I deeply love what I do and find that imposter syndrome still comes and goes. The feedback I receive from clients on how the work affects them and what it means to them is what brings me the most joy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking the leap to start my own business on my own as a single woman feels like a huge accomplishment. I could have never imagined a few years ago doing all the things that I've done this year - walking away from a great career, building my own website, writing and publishing a kid's yoga book, working with athletic teams, and meeting so many amazing people. Taking the first step is my proudest accomplishment because it made everything else possible.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest part is not having a daily schedule. While I love how flexible my time is, I could use more discipline with it. I also miss having a daily work family at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Talk to others who have done this. We are more than happy to share our journey and any tips we've learned along the way.
  2. Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster the first year. Some days I feel like this was the best decision ever, and other days I question everything. My mentors thankfully shared that it's all part of the process (which helps tremendously!).
  3. Have a plan for the phases of starting your business. What is your goal for the first 3-6 months? How will you assess how things are going? What is your goal for 12 months? Do a check-in again to assess and see how far you've come.
  4. Connect with other entrepreneurs for support.
  5. Be compassionate with yourself.
  6. Celebrate every single victory along the way - especially the little ones. Each one is a building block for what you are creating.

All the best!
