Where Heart Meets Talent - HEARTLENT Group
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jonah Ballow, Founder of HEARTLENT Group, located in Stamford, CT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
HEARTLENT Group is a creative agency focused on sports and lifestyle/entertainment. We are trusted by and work with professional teams, leagues + athletes, and often collaborate with other agencies given our core capabilities.
Tell us about yourself
My career started in broadcasting with a producer/on-air role for a sports radio station in Kansas City. After seeing the shift in convergence media, I made the decision to work for the Minnesota Timberwolves and then the New York Knicks, overseeing the digital content strategy and executing the content as an on-air talent. At my core, I love creating content that resonates with fans and consumers. Every day, I look for new and innovative ways to tell stories through illustrations, animations, motion graphics, and video while optimizing how this content is distributed on social media platforms.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I’m incredibly proud of what Heartlent Group has accomplished in just under three years. We’ve completely rebuilt our client list, generated content for monumental sports moments, and established our company as an improved agency approach. Above all, I’m delighted to have developed meaningful relationships with creatives and our clients. One of our main goals was to work with and for people we truly like, and I believe we’ve succeeded because of this mindset.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There are many challenges as a business owner. The difficulty is maintaining perspective on the big picture while dealing with the ebbs and flows of the business. I always preach to myself that it’s “not if but when” in terms of framing the long-term goals and a ruthless focus on the future.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Early on, establish what makes your business special and unique.
- Streamline your business as much as possible to maximize profits in the early stages.
- Don’t become paralyzed by doubt. Always push forward.
