Made with love - Heart Shaped Cake
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in baking and design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chrissi Ludwig, founder of Heart Shaped Cake, located in West Chezzetcook, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is not a pure baking business. At least it was never supposed to be. But word spread and now I am making every once in a while a cake, cupcakes, sourdough bread or cookies for friends and acquaintances. The main business in the future is going to be baking supplements and supplies over my shop at my homepage. I will definitely focus on natural products without artificial ingredients because this is what I stand for. All my baking goods are made with high quality mostly organic ingredients. For example I try to buy all eggs from a local farm or organic store.
Tell us about yourself
The business name and homepage exist since 2018 when we decided to move to Canada. I always wanted to convert my hobby into my business. I grew up with baking and cooking a lot with my mom and I always enjoyed trying new things. The business name was inspired through my mom who was always baking a heart shaped cake for every birthday which people just loved. But through everything that happened over the last 2 years and my husband still studying while full-time working it took a bit longer to establish it. But now it is getting some grip and it is exiting and fun to do all the little steps and see how things progress.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment might be having the courage to start my first own business in a new country we just moved to.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Juggling my time between family and business. When you do your business from home there is no hard divide between the two of them.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Take your time. And your time means your pace. Look at others for inspiration, not for putting pressure on yourself. Be you!
Anything else you'd like to share?
Do what you love and follow your passion. Don´t chase only the short term money, go for the long run and for sustainable business relations.
