Creating Meaningful Conversations & Community - HealthyADHD

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Liz Lewis, Owner of HealthyADHD, located in York, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a writer, coach, and facilitator for ADHD women and mothers.

Tell us about yourself

I started my website because, back in 2015, only therapists and doctors wrote about ADHD. I wanted to do something different. I always knew I wanted to form a community around it; I just didn't know what that would look like. These days ADHD is a huge market. But really, I haven't changed much - I still write; I got a contract to write a book. I host a low-cost membership for women who want to have conversations beyond what is happening on social media. And now I do a little speaking at conferences. I'd say I get out of bed every day because not everyone enjoys the "noise" around ADHD. I provide more affordable but still high-touch options.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Collaborating with the therapists and doctors, I admired back when I started in 2015. Also, pushing myself to get uncomfortable. It was a huge leap for me to start speaking in front of people and taking coaching classes.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having ADHD and also having to wear all the hats. I still don't have help, so I do everything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Really consider how much time, energy, and resources it takes to run a business before you put everything into it.
  2. Don't tie your identity to your business: your value as a human isn't tied to how much money you make.
  3. If you work at home, learn how to create "work" spaces and "personal" spaces; otherwise, work will bleed into every area of your life. I don't say this to discourage anyone, but really - not everyone should be an entrepreneur. It rarely looks like Instagram photos.
