What's your business, and who are your customers?

Founded in 2015, Healthy Synergy, LLC was established as a therapy practice to offer safe, judgment-free counseling services to those in need. To live is to experience all there is in this world, which often includes darkness and struggle. Rooted in the concept of dialectics, Healthy Synergy, LLC believes that being present can aid in the journey to greater joy through the processing of pain.

We believe that Black Lives Matter, diversity is what makes us wonderful and that all people deserve quality, whole-body wellness regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age, and/or ability. We lead by example as advocates for social justice in our community, and we support those who are often marginalized to find their voices and create the lives they value.

Tell us about yourself

I believe that healthy living is rooted in authenticity and that all people deserve to live their lives as they value. In navigating issues related to culture, race, sexuality, gender, or interpersonal dynamics, I've always strived to create a non-judgmental space where all topics can be explored freely. I specialize in working with individuals of color and female-identifying patients and am also an LGBTQ+, poly, and kink-allied provider and aim to support marginalized groups in receiving care, free from stigma.

I've been fortunate to work with adults, adolescents, and children for over a decade. My passion emphasizes the value of multicultural competency and a deep exploration of the relationship between identity and health. I aim to support my patients in bettering their lives and reaching their individual goals through a holistic approach targeting mind-body health. To be able to sit with someone who is becoming the truest version of themselves is the greatest honor of my life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started my practice as a solo practitioner in 2015 and have grown to include multiple providers, including graduate interns. My practice is now an approved internship site with Arizona State University. I'm able to support clinicians in their growth and development as they work towards independent licensure. My business now offers a range of services at various costs to meet our community's dynamic needs. I'm so grateful to be able to support a team of therapists in doing what we do!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's often challenging to create something from nothing. I've been lucky to know other clinicians on a similar journey and learn from those who paved the way. Some days it's hard to create a balance where there is always something that needs my attention. I've worked hard to create boundaries so that my business is not my "everything" while still taking pride in what I do every day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build connections with other business owners, so you're never in this alone.
  2. Ask for help! There's a wealth of knowledge out there.
  3. Take care of yourself. There is always work to be done. Don't forget to take a break and do something just for yourself.
