Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicolette Renata, Founder of Health Emersion, located in Westwood, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Nicolette is the Founder of Health Emersion and Eating Intelligence®, which holistically supports women on their journey towards a healthy relationship with food and body by addressing diet mentality, overeating, binge eating, and a negative body image. Through a practical, spiritual, and energetic approach, Eating Intelligence® provides education and empowerment to support women in awakening to greater self-care and harmony through conscious nutrition.
Tell us about yourself
Through healing my own relationship with food and body, I saw such a lack of meaningful support that teaches powerful tools to combat diet culture. I realized that it was so much more than eating "right" and exercising more. It's a shift to look within, address our thoughts and beliefs and take empowered action to let go of old habits and cultivate a greater connection within. This cultivation is what supports a sustainable, healthy lifestyle and the strength to reject the diet mentality.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishments are the continued referrals that I receive from clients who are so happy with their new mindset around food and body image. It's the greatest compliment, and I am always honored to have my name passed along to support the loved ones of my previous clients.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Deciding when to take breaks! I love what I do so much and have a lot of energy, but my self-care practice is a top value. My work doesn't feel like "work," so sometimes I put off deciding that I need to step back and rest or take time off.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be clear on your reasons. Why do you want to start your business? Who do you want to help? What do you have to offer?
- Do it your way. There are a lot of suggestions and formulas for starting and running a business. If someone suggests you do things a certain way and it just doesn't feel right for you - do what feels better. No one knows your business as you do.
- Be open to shift. What you initially envision may be what you end up with, and also it might shift and evolve into something different. Stay open and keep checking in with your heart to see what feels aligned.
