Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marisa Fanelli, Owner of Healing Point Therapeutics, located in Sudbury, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of Healing Point Therapeutics in Sudbury, MA. I'm an acupuncturist, hypnotherapist, business strategist, and intuitive. I see clients who are ready to transform and transcend their previous limitations when it comes to their potential in health, wellness, and self.

Tell us about yourself

I started as an acupuncturist after watching my mother suffer through a variety of health issues during my childhood. Once I became licensed, I decided to incorporate hypnotherapy into the mix to truly inspire healing on every level. As the years went by, I realized that I was a magnet for all types of metaphysical practitioners. I began to create communities where I could connect "magical" people with clients who needed them the most. Every day I am motivated by people contacting me to tell me that the connections I've created for them have shifted their entire trajectory.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was awarded the Sudbury Businessperson of the Year award in 2020, which was a huge accomplishment. I was also featured in the Boston Globe and Boston Magazine. All of these wins keep reminding me that the work I do is so important and that my goal of mainstreaming magic is coming to fruition.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The ups and downs of business can be challenging. I had to shut down during 2020 due to the pandemic, which was daunting. Overall, I would say that the hardest thing is that it is all me, whether we are referring to success or failure. When you run the whole show, you can't simply disappear for a few months on a whim. If you disappear, so does your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Right from the beginning, know your numbers: know your expenses, how much you need to make to keep your business running, and set goals for yourself that allow you to do that.
  2. Find your tribe of people who truly support you and lift you up, and keep them close.
  3. Set your boundaries from day one. Have rules and systems in place from the start because it only gets harder to do so as you build and grow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being an entrepreneur means doing things you don't like 70% of the time so that you can do things you love 30% of the time. However, as you grow, you will be able to delegate much of the 70%. If you aren't prepared to sacrifice in the beginning, being an entrepreneur may not be the right path for you.
