Healing Through Wellness Retreats - Headwraps & Cowrie Shells
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maticia Sudah, CEO and Founder of Headwraps & Cowrie Shells, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Headwraps & Cowrie Shells focuses on women in any stage of menopause. We assist women in ascending into this stage of life with more ease and confidence by utilizing fitness, nutrition, and mindset. We do this through Kemetic Yoga, nutrition classes, international retreats, and more. We have an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse on our team as well as a Life Coach.
Tell us about yourself
At 46 years of age, I started ascending through menopause. The beginning was very rough for me as I did not have the information to deal with this stage of my life. It was as if a switch was flipped in my body, and I no longer recognized myself energetically, physically, or emotionally. I sought advice from older women in my community to no avail, so I started my own research and figured out where I was in my feminine journey. Due to my ignorance of what I was going through, I knew that I couldn't be the only one that was in the dark about menopause.
I held my first international retreat in Portland, Jamaica, in June 2022, and it was a success. After cracking the code as it relates to my own symptoms through nutrition, fitness, and mindset, I decided to share this information with other women locally and beyond. So many are hungry for this information. I'm so glad I listened to my inner voice to bring more attention to this topic.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was organizing an international retreat organically in Portland, Jamaica. My retreat is titled, 'The Ascension Of Life...Mastering Menopause' Women's Retreat. It is 7 days of highly nutritious eating, cultural fitness, indigenous lecturers from the island, excursions, journaling, sister circles, and more. I'm very proud I was able to pull it off, and everyone left wanting more and gave the retreat rave reviews. The attendees and I are still in contact currently.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Organizing ideas and requests from outside of the business can be challenging. Even though I would love to be all things to all people, it is impossible. I have to remember that this business was created out of love, care, and concern for myself and, in turn, others. I have to remember that fact when I feel like I may be pulled in different directions or spread too thin.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If the idea was given to you, it was given to you to execute.
- Don't be concerned about what others are doing, even if it's the same business. Your superpower is no one is YOU.
- Always maintain a balance between work and life. Burnout and mental stress are real.
