The Power of Community - Harvest Chef Society
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with D'Arcy Demoe, Owner of Harvest Chef Society, located in Whistler, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run a catering/private chef service with a grocery store in Whistler, BC. Our customers are young families too, corporate groups and those getting married.
Tell us about yourself
I was born outside Toronto and grew up in the food industry. I decided to go out on my own to help have more flexibility with my time for my family and clients with whom I wanted to work.
I'm motivated by the seasons of the mountains and bringing people together using food as the vessel.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting my own space and knowing I can support my family financially and help other Chefs build confidence in their craft.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I would say the most challenging part is being able to switch off the machine, so I am present when I am home and meeting the expectations of my staff and clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Make sure you have a good framework and vision. It's okay to say no. Protect your time and relationships you value... the people you'd like to work with tend to find you.
