It's Not Just Water - HarmonyX Water

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hany Bayaa, founder of HarmonyX Water, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

HarmonyX is a unique marketing tool that utilizes the most commoditized product, "the water." Our premium water bottles offer a unique opportunity to disrupt and change the way how water bottles are used in branding. The shape of the bottle offers you the ability to utilize a full side of the bottle, the quality of the PET used shows the premium touch of your brand, the multi-color sticker label opens the skies for your creativity to tell your story to your customers. What we are offering is more than just Private Labeling.

Inspired by Dubai, the home of the tallest tower in the world and the exceptional Palm islands. We created a unique bottle that offered our customers unity with their lifestyle and moved to the USA to disrupt the bottled water market.

Tell us about yourself

I have been passionate about manufacturing all my life, and when I saw a market gap, I went for it. I have spent the last 22 years working for great companies across different functions and industries, which helped me to build the business on the right foundations.. seeing the team growing, the footprint that we are making, the customer satisfaction, the team on the production floor, all that make me excited day by day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Apart from building a full manufacturing capability from scratch, we have managed to put our name on the map, won a big name as customers, such as Burj Khalifa in Dubai, on our U-Brand products, partnered with one of the Blue-Chip companies for a co-packing opportunity, exporting to 5 different countries and expanding, opening more branches (USA).. so I would say, despite all the challenges that we faced, especially with Covid19, we have managed to build a company from scratch and put our name as multi-countries player.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding and retaining the right talent.. hiring the right team is a challenge; the alternative is to heir inexpert, but you will spend time training them or correcting their mistakes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Fund more than what your model shows.. don't say I will start small and grow.. cash is king.
  2. Find the right team; you won't be able to do it all by yourself.. having an executor only is not enough; you need more brains with you.
  3. Be on top of everything; no one will do it like you, it doesn't mean you do it all yourself, but it means to create the right process, assign these processes to leaders and have the suitable operating mechanism with them.. and always dig deeper.. all my OpMech includes the second level of reporting or what we call 2LD (2 Levels Down) to make sure all are running at the same beat.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting a business is not easy, so be prepared for long hours, more work, and most importantly, have a way to cover your personal expenses without depending on the new business.
