What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are in the business of helping people achieve optimal health through evidence-based dietary solutions. We help decrease patients' dependence on prescription drugs, decrease trips to the doctor, and give people a better quality of life. Our customers are people who are looking to make serious commitments to their health in order to live longer and stronger.
Tell us about yourself
When Hippocrates said, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food," I believe he was referring to the understanding that we truly are what we eat, and our health and quality of life are direct reflections of how we nourish ourselves. I really feel like my gift and purpose are to help people understand these connections and empower people to make meaningful lifestyle changes. I started out as a personal trainer for ten years and then went back to school to complete my degree in dietetics. I have always been intrigued by physiology. Being a dietitian sometimes feels like detective work. I am constantly looking to learn more and dig as deep as I can to find nutritional root causes for my patient's concerns. This is what motivates me every day. My entire team takes this approach to nutrition and patient care, and it is this philosophy that keeps us growing.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishments happen every day in the patients that I am able to help. From a business standpoint, we have more than doubled in size and patient reach each year since we started in 2018, and that is something I am very proud of. We have worked hard to get here.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding work/life balance is probably the hardest thing as a business owner. It is often hard to let things go to the next day when you know that your name is on every outcome and customer experience. Over the past few years, I have learned to delegate and prioritize. It takes time to create a well-oiled business that runs even when you are not present 24 hours a day. I am constantly learning new ways to be the best wife and mother I can be while also striving to be a great business owner and boss.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I have one tip that pretty much covers it all. A wise friend and business owner, Ty McMath, said something one day that always resonated with me. He said, "fail fast." And I think it's brilliant. In business, you are going to have grand ideas that fall flat, and the path you plan isn't always the path you take. That being said, the most important thing I have done is just that, "failed fast" Recognize your mistake, pick up the pieces and start again...and do it quickly.
