Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sheereen Price, Co-Founder of Hardpops Inc., located in Marina Del Rey, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Boozy. Ice. Pops. 21-45? It's hard when you see 65+ go really hard with the hard pops, and you want to add them to your "customers" but can't because retailers won't like it. Boozy ice pops for grown ups. Yep, you read that right. These aren't the pops from back in the day - nope, we said "thank you, next" to the artificial flavors, dyes, and the infamous blue tongue. Just the good stuff, because you deserve it.
Tell us about yourself
I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Lived and studied around the world and had a lot of different experiences, from teaching English in Istanbul, political risk management in London, starting a publishing company at the tender age of 21, to now making little boozy ice pops (formerly known as freezies). My parents were both self-employed, so obvi I was destined to be too. Also, I love maps, travel, languages (I speak a few), cheese, and star trek: next generation. What motivates me: Building something, building anything. The creativity and constantly being kept on your toes in business is exciting. As we (my co-founder Gabby) always say to ourselves, "never a dull moment, eh?".
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have had a lot of great accomplishments, but I'm pretty hard on us. My goal is for hardpops to be the world's most recognizable boozy ice pop...so until then. If I had to choose one, though, it would be that the people around us think it's super cool what we are doing, so that makes me feel really good inside.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Inventing tomorrow's to-do list. As a business owner, you have to come up with the steps that you think will move the business forward, and that is really hard. You don't have someone saying, 'hey, do this before lunch, thanks' it's more like, 'ummm okay, if I do this, then this might happen, I think...no idea actually, but let's just give it a go".
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start yesterday.
- Don't let fear get in the way; remember, everyone else is scared too.
- Keep on going (unless it's the world's worst idea), and I think this perseverance thing is really big.
