Present Age Ministries - Hannah Arrowood
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hannah Arrowood, Founder of Present Age Ministries, located in Concord, NH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Present Age Ministries is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization committed to combating the sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking of teen girls. We equip communities to identify at-risk teen girls through prevention and awareness education and to support survivors through holistic, individualized care.
Tell us about yourself
I had over a decade of corporate experience when I took a leap of faith, quit my job, and started this nonprofit. My motivation was my faith in God and my clear calling to this work. I found myself unfulfilled in corporate America and wrestled with the thought: “there has to be more.” Today, 14 years later, I am still just as excited, passionate, and fulfilled that I get to do this work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
From a business perspective, I would say one of my greatest accomplishments is helping to create systems and programs that can be replicated. By providing the direction and structure for this mindset to be woven into the DNA of Present Age culture, we have been able to replicate it in other organizations across the United States and around the world.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Fundraising! As a nonprofit, we constantly need to grow, but that is in direct proportion to resources that would allow us to do so. Securing partners and those who will invest in our work can be challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have passion! Be confident and steadfast that this is what you are meant to do. It’s hard most days. Having a purpose will win on days you want to give up.
- Internal culture is critical. Decide what kind of culture you want for your team /staff. The chemistry among teammates will take you farther than any other asset.
- Integrity! Integrity! Integrity! Let your yes be yes, and your no is no. Don’t make promises you can’t keep. Community relationships (whether with clients, vendors, competitors, etc.) are the foundation of most businesses, so do this part well.
