Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dachd Wachs, CEO of Handwrytten, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Handwrytten is the largest provider of handwriting solutions in the world. We have 175 robots that we build and program to scale human outreach in ways never before possible. Our solution allows people to create unique stationery online, then write on that card, address it, stamp it and mail it (with a real stamp) all in one day. We plug into major CRM and no-code systems to make automation easy.

Tell us about yourself

Before Handwrytten, I ran Cellit, a leading text messaging company. We send millions of texts a day to leading brands. After a while, I realized we were part of the problem! People were receiving hundreds of digital messages a day. What really stood out was old-fashioned communication, so I turned to handwritten notes after I sold the company. I am motivated by building an engaged team, increasing human interaction and brand loyalty, and having fun with cool technology like robotics!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Selling my last company. My biggest accomplishment now is building a team of 45, as well as having our robot patented.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having the willpower to keep going. It takes years to get a business off the ground. Having the self-confidence to keep trying until you make it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. ALWAYS GET IN OVER YOUR HEAD. Told to me by Conan O'Brien. You can't grow if you're in your comfort zone. Get in over your head, and you'll (most likely) rise to the occasion.
  2. You only fail when you give up. It's not like a basketball game with a time limit. As long as you can keep going, you can win the game.
  3. Spend time to work ON the business, and not always IN the business. Read "E-Myth" by Michael Gerber to learn more about this concept.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Hire slow and fire quick. Build your team like your business depends on it, which it does!
