Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tim Quinn, co-founder of Halo42, located in Boca Raton, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Halo42, a recently launched skincare and wellness brand, founded on the principle that~ beauty is a human right! Through self-care, we learn to accept ourselves and others. Our customers across all barriers of age, gender, race, and sexual identity. We are a purpose-driven company rooted in both our recoveries, me from cancer, and Mark from addiction and suicide attempts.

Tell us about yourself

Our brand actually came about when I came across Mark’s book, a memoir, chronicling his overcoming heroin addiction, suicide attempts, and coming out. The topic is personal for me. I lost both my younger brother and my partner of more than 20 years to addiction. We came together when I initially hired Mark to help me reset my physical strength, stamina, and self-confidence after nearly 20 years of grueling travel schedule as VP of Creative Artistry for Giorgio Armani Beauty. What came about in those training sessions was the realization that our recoveries were quite similar. Central to both of our recoveries was leaning into the mindful application of our skincare routines to help us shift our own value internally. We knew right away that partnering with a skincare brand that helped people recognize their own inner rainbow and embrace their beauty was our new life mission. The name stems from Mark‘s dream about an upside-down rainbow to be our logo, upon researching we found that they’re part of the Halo family which are around us all the time but we can only witness them when we’re at the right degree 42. Which immediately we both realized would be the name of our company, established with a purpose of helping people shift their perspective just slightly to recognize their own worth.  After all beauty is a human right and that is what motivates us each and every single day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Quite honestly, the fact that we managed to bring this brand to market within nine months of our initial conversation we find to be remarkable; we credit not only tenacity, drive, and passion but also the connectedness of the universe putting things in our path to make the process seem so effortless. We are proud to have built such a beautiful brand and delighted that our brand is modeled on the idea of giving back.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Probably one of the hardest things to overcome, especially when launching a new business as cofounders, is maintaining a sense of balance so that there is a separation between work life and personal life. Often times it’s hard to discern between the two, as this business is so personal.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Primarily to follow your dream and listen to your intuition. Secondly, do not be afraid to seek advice; there are so many terrific opportunities for mentorship and guidance that are available everywhere for free. Lastly, take time to forgive yourself for the small mistakes, even the big mistakes, and honor yourself for the accomplishments every single day.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I think it’s important to recognize that there is beauty within and all around us. Take time to breathe, reflect and enjoy the life you’re living as you’re building your business. For us, We found joy every day, even when we didn’t know what we were really doing.
