Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Haley Fountain, a holistic health coach, and yoga and meditation instructor, based in Houston, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a Holistic Health Coach and Yoga/Meditation Instructor for women - I help women to balance their hormones, heal their guts, and improve their mind-body connection. I work with women ages 25-45 through all seasons of life- from women trying to heal their menstrual cycle, women trying to get pregnant, all the way up to women starting menopause. I offer private 1:1 coaching, group programs, workshops, and live events in Houston to bring people together who are on their wellness journeys!
Tell us about yourself
I got started in the holistic health world through my own health journey. I had irregular, painful periods after getting off the birth control pill. I also had terrible gut issues, wasn't sleeping well and was anxious all the time. The only solution I was given by doctors was more pills, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I started a blog, went back to school to get my Integrative Nutrition + Hormonal Health certifications, and started helping other women to heal their bodies naturally. Last year I deepened my knowledge of the body by getting certified as a yoga/meditation instructor to help offer more value to my clients.
I'm motivated by the urge to become 1% better every day and help others do the same. I'm a lifelong learner and passionate about TOTAL health (physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional), so I'll always continue to learn more and share with my community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is the success stories of my clients. I've helped women get their periods back to normal after not having a period for a whole year. I've supported women in getting pregnant after many failed attempts. Many of my clients are going through menopause, and I've supported them in lifestyle + mindset changes that made menopause more comfortable for them.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Consistency. It's the boring, monotonous things that make the biggest impact. You really have to manage your time and energy wisely and also keep yourself motivated - you don't have a boss holding you accountable to deliverables or deadlines - you have to do that for yourself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Good things take time. Although there are many "overnight success" stories out there, the reality is that you just have to keep inching toward your goal every day. Work hard and stay patient.
- It's okay to pivot. It's actually okay to pivot, rebrand, or change things around as many times as you need. As you evolve, your brand and your business will, too. Learn how to fail fast and dust yourself off and take a new direction.
- Most people aren't going to understand what you're doing or why you're doing it, and that's okay. You aren't like most people! Learn to motivate yourself and become your own biggest cheerleader.
