Navigating the Challenges of Lead Generation - Guud Marketing

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jonathan Schlossberg, Co-Founder of Guud Marketing, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with my wife, and we advise, consult, and Coach businesses and online business owners on how to use organic social for lead generation that produces revenue and authority.

Tell us about yourself

I am a professional actor who's done a bit of TV work and transitioned into an online business through an odd set of happenstances. It's a cool but longer story that involves a casting director of an Oscar-nominated film, the MLM world, real estate. Initially, my wife and I loved working together even before we were married or a couple and knew we wanted to do our own thing so we could create fun and adventures for ourselves and allow us to do our acting w/o $ stress. My driving force is tri-fold... a fun and adventurous life for our family, showing our kids what is possible, and the most recent decision of creating a 100-year generation change for our family.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

  • In our first year in coaching, we did over a quarter million in revenue and were new to that space.
  • Working hand in hand with my wife in our business while having and raising 4 kids (8,6,4,2, all exactly 2 years apart and all born in the first 2 weeks of Dec) and homeschooling them at the same time. I'd say that we are an Improbable family and business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, it's the balance of work, my wife's work, and raising the kids. We have to juggle quite a bit, so that's always a focus; plus, since our kids are little, things change on the daily, so we are constantly navigating and adjusting on the fly. But it's also something we've fully embraced. We are authentic and ethical business owners that maintain an abnormal level of integrity, so it's maintaining our values in a space where there are no rules and regulations of what people can do and how they behave. We've laughed a lot at the fact that we'd be way, way richer if we didn't have the morals and values we uphold.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. GET A MENTOR AND HIRE A COACH - we waited way too long and spent years fumbling and making mistakes, but had we valued time over money in the beginning, we'd have leaped forward way faster.
  2. It's 100% all about the "in-between" (aka the journey), and that's where most of your growth will come. You may have a destination you are trying to achieve, but you getting there in the exact way you plan is slim to none. Have fun, enjoy it, and surround yourself with amazing people because it doesn't always go according to plan + when you get there, there's going to be a new destination in mind.
  3. Let yourself fail, learn and grow. But also be malleable. I couldn't have predicted when we started that we'd end up where we are now, doing what we are doing. No way!
