Team Development Made Simple - Gurubeam ApS
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Baun, CEO & Founder of Gurubeam ApS, located in Aarhus C, Denmark.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We make it super easy for leaders to develop their teams through high-impact team processes that usually would be extremely expensive and time-consuming.
Tell us about yourself
I was head of HR in a fast-growing scaleup. We were great at hiring amazing talents. But I really needed us to be equally great at creating high-performing teams. But our budgets and tight schedule made it really difficult to have time for workshops and external consultants. And HR was so swamped with tasks that we couldn't really handle it ourselves. It was kind of a catch-22 where we didn't have time for developing teams, but the hand to handle issues that could have been addressed and avoided if we had helped develop engagement, motivation, loyalty, and teamwork skills. So I started making the first digital team sessions that we call "Beams" because we want to make them really short and to the point, like beaming or zapping knowledge into a team and then turning it into action really, really fast.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Within the first year of launching our first real product (not MVP), we landed 3 of Denmark's largest companies as customers. All of them have +20.000 employees and are global leaders in their markets.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The number of f***ups, tests, and trials is hard. It's an emotional rollercoaster, and that can honestly be very draining. One day something absolutely amazing is happening or seems to be just about to happen. And then the next day, something goes wrong or unexpected.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find the right team (it might not be who you think). And remember that a team is not just people on your payroll. It can be anyone you can be working with.
- Make sure that funding/finances are right and that sales are working well. Financial stress creates stress everywhere.
- Find "good people"; by that, I mean people that will mentor, help, share, open doors, etc., for you. It has the potential to make a huge difference.
