Work on YOUR Terms - GrowthFocus

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Demi, Co-Founder of GrowthFocus, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

GrowthFocus is my business, and my customers are aspiring virtual assistants and entrepreneurs that want control of their freedom and schedules.

Tell us about yourself

After freelancing full-time as a virtual assistant for digital companies, I felt inspired to teach others how to do it. Learning how to start and grow an e-business with no experience can be challenging, so I felt compelled to share my tried and tested methods of business hacking. When I met my client (turned friend and business partner), she inspired me to collaborate with her and create a comprehensive course for aspiring digital entrepreneurs. Nothing motivates me more than empowering women to own their skill sets and build a profitable online business. I love that being a virtual assistant requires no professional certifications and that there's unlimited earning and learning potential in this type of work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is using my skills and experience to help develop the next generation of digital entrepreneurs. I've had the privilege to work with the brightest digital companies and CEOs, and to extend what I've learned to fresh new minds, is an absolute gift. I feel accomplished any time I've inspired or educated my students to dream bigger and reach for their maximum potential.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being an e-teacher is knowing that success results are based on the application of our methods. We can share resources, answers, tips, and strategies with our students but the success of the methods lies in the hands of our students. We provide educational resources to our students and encourage them along the way with our social media pages, blog posts, and podcast. I want to be a resource but also a cheerleader for the women we teach, and it can be a balancing act. It's a labor of love, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a mentor to shadow.
You can learn so much by shadowing someone you want to be like. Spend a week with them, learn about what they do on the day-to-day, and find out if you have ideas to make their work better. If you find that you're a keen problem-solver, that's a sign that you're ready to start your own business. Also, you get to bypass the roadblocks they go through by learning from their experiences.
  2. Be grateful for learning experiences.
Every day in business is a day to learn more about your business, your industry, and ultimately yourself. When you're grateful for every small experience or accomplishment, you'll be more fulfilled in your work.
  3. Technology is your friend.
The more that you can learn how modern technology works and how to use the internet, the better off you'll be in your business. There's power in learning about new systems and tools that help your business run smoothly and efficiently. Don't be afraid of technology; it's not as scary as it looks.
