Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emilia D'Anzica, Founder of Growth Molecules, located in Santa Rosa, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Growth Molecules™ is a Customer Success consulting firm focused on education that empowers your teams responsible for revenue expansion and protection. We are also known for our fractional/part-time leadership roles, team diagnostics, and playbook creation that lays the foundation for your company's growth and stability during economic uncertainty.

Tell us about yourself

I am the founder and managing director of Growth Molecules; a management consulting firm focused on customer support and success. The company's mission is to help organizations increase profit while maximizing customer value. We host a certified customer success academy with over 16 professional development courses. I am also on several advisory boards globally and an active contributor to the Forbes Council. Currently, I am preparing to be a foster mentor to abused children. My lifestyle doesn't allow for more children at this time, so instead, I want to work with young people who have had a challenging upbringing. It will be a challenge and fulfilling at the same time.

As an early employee at several successful companies, I amassed over 20 years of customer experience in roles as Vice President of Customer Engagement at WalkMe, Director of Client Service Operations at BrightEdge, and Director of Customer Success at Jobvite. I hold a BA from the University of British Columbia and an MBA with Honors from Saint Mary's College of California. I am PMP and Scrum-certified.

I reside in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, and am motivated by my three children, shelter dog, and partner. Pressing ON as a Tech Mom is my first book, although I have published hundreds of articles about customer success and professional development.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a team of successful consultants who work well together, hold each other accountable and truly impact people's professional and the company's revenue growth.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Rejection. When one spends weeks and months building a relationship, then hours writing a statement of work, only to lose to a competitor, it is hard. At the same time, it makes me want to learn from the loss and do better next time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a passion and ask yourself, are you willing to work hard to turn this passion into a business that will sustain the life you want to lead.
  2. If you fail at first, try again. Successful people aren't afraid to try new ideas and admit they were wrong. Then wipe off the insecurity and try again and again until they create the winning recipe.
  3. Invest in continuous learning from successful people. Having an executive coach keeps me accountable and provides honest feedback on my strategy.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Getting over imposter syndrome and insecurities, the 'I'm not good enough yet,' is hard but taking small steps daily to overcome society's pressure is rewarding. Focus on one small improvement daily and watch your true light shine.
