Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nawaz Kazmi, co-founder of GROWEVERYDAY, located in Den Haag, The Netherlands.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are in the business of personal growth. We help organizations to facilitate their employees to become the best version of themselves, resulting in unlimited growth for the employee as well as the organization.
Tell us about yourself
My brother and I have always dreamed of becoming entrepreneurs. We already had all these crazy ideas when we were still in primary school. When I was in my third year of university (my brother had just graduated then), we decided to go for it. Our first real company was MiU, a meaningful marketing agency, quickly followed by our family restaurant, Hills & Mills, making our father's dream a reality. After that, we opened a salad bar and a working space and wrote a cookbook that was sold on three continents. In our entrepreneurial journey, we found out what our greatest passion was: personal growth and becoming the best versions of ourselves, not only for my brother and me but also for our sister. Our sister joined our team after she graduated, making the puzzle complete. She brings in her powerful, feminine energy, and her people skills are unparalleled. We felt that GROWEVERYDAY would be our life's work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
You many times hear about people that have a successful business: first, it is hard, then you persevere, and then you succeed. This is true, but it has multiple layers in it. Because on the way to success, there are continuous challenges that must be faced. It's not only one time that perseverance is needed. I am proud that I hung in there and never gave up.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, it's a luxury one: working too hard. Balance is key. While working hard is romanticised, and I believe in working hard, I also believe that you must have the discipline to take time off from work. Spend time with family, connect with nature, and things like that. For me, that has been very hard, as I was so focused on building my business. If you are really true to your purpose, you don't have to force yourself to put in the work. But you do have to force yourself to take time off work.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start!
- Build a mastermind alliance, people that you fully trust and that help you in your growth, hold you accountable and help you embrace the power of vulnerability.
- Do the work.
