Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Susan Czyzo, founder of Grounded Physiotherapy, located in Toronto, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Grounded Physiotherapy offers 1 to 1 mindfulness coaching for anyone who wants feeling grounded and present to be their norm. Through a tailored and holistic program, people can learn to live a life aligned with their values and to act with intention rather than out of habit consistently. They become equipped with tools that last a lifetime and are accessible at any moment.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a physiotherapist and mindfulness coach. I became a physiotherapist because I loved that I could help people access what they had within themselves in order to recover from pain or injury. I wasn't interested in prescribing medications or using scalpels. When I discovered mindfulness, I learned how to better my mental health from within, and I felt so empowered. I knew right away that I wanted to pursue it further to empower my clients in return.
We have the knowledge and strength within ourselves to lead meaningful and vibrant lives, and my mission is to help people access that strength and knowledge. Not only is this incredibly empowering, but it also helps contribute to a ripple effect of kindness, empathy, and respect for ourselves and others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Seeing clients incorporate mindfulness into their day-to-day lives and realize that small shifts have such a huge impact in helping them feel calm and grounded in any moment - those are some of the best moments. And clients realize that the tools they learned through our sessions are theirs for life - accessible to them at any moment - that also always feels like a big success!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
In the coaching line of business, changes that clients are working on don't always happen overnight - they can, but they often take a bit more time. So what I often have to remind myself, in a culture that favours instant gratification, is that I'm "in it for the long run." It's a piece of advice given to me by my own coach and reminds me to keep my focus on the big picture and the long-term plan instead of waiting and expecting changes to happen overnight. It's an idea I also share with my clients on their journeys to leading more mindful lives.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Reflect on what you're passionate about, what you're good at, and what the world needs. Then use that information to create your business idea.
Running a business can be a lonely journey, but it doesn't have to be. Surround yourself with positive and supportive entrepreneurs and work to bring each other up through the ups and downs of entrepreneur life.
Take care of your physical and mental health. Check in with yourself often to see what your mind and body need and then follow through on it. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, sometimes just a walk outside or a trip to your favourite cafe is more than enough to support your health.
