Food, Body, and Self - Finding Ground Functional Nutrition

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Diamond, founder of Finding Ground Functional Nutrition, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Functional Nutritionist specializing in autoimmune conditions and mental health disorders. I started my business because I wanted to give other people the relief, comfort, and clarity I felt when I learned how to work with my body instead of against it. From such a young age, we are taught to trust outside sources on our health instead of our own, and I want to help people reclaim their relationships with health, food, and their bodies.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve been interested in food, farming, and hunger since I was little. I started a group in my high school on these topics, and it grew throughout my four years. This time really impacted the direction I went in life, and I haven’t deviated much since! I’ve worked in food waste, hunger and food insecurity, climate resilience, and clinical nutrition. Having a wide range of experience in this field has really helped my business thrive; there is so much love for this work in me that it helps me get through the more “mundane” parts of running a business. My lifelong dream to help people feel like themselves again, prevent chronic disease and illness, and help people heal come true for me, and I am so grateful for that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been the incredible transformations I’ve helped my clients achieve. I’ve helped people heal ulcerative colitis through non-invasive nutritional and lifestyle means, I’ve helped people ease the anxiety that once gripped their lives, and I’ve helped people with IBS reclaim their ability to live normally. These transformations are priceless, and it was such an honor to work with and get to know these clients and help them get their lives back.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I don’t think new business owners realize that in becoming an entrepreneur, you are also becoming an accountant, a marketing manager, a social media manager, a data analyst, and more on top of what you actually set out to do! This can definitely feel overwhelming at times, and it took about six months to really get the hang of it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, make sure you choose something you love enough to get you through the long nights ahead of you. Having a strong “why” really will take you so far! Second, have people who truly support you around you, if at all possible, people who can be honest yet kind and give you an important perspective on your business. Having that will keep you grounded, and that’s so important. Third, be open! You will meet so many people on this journey and learn so much from every client/customer.

Stay true to your original passion, but keep an open mind; it will take you far! Entrepreneurship has given me so much freedom, has taught me so much about myself, has taken me on so many adventures, and sparked so many wonderful relationships. Keep your head up, and keep going no matter what!
